One of our favorite authors, Will D. Campbell, passed away this week. He was a civil rights leader and the self-proclaimed ‘boot-leg preacher’ in Tennessee. His books have been fixtures in our homes as well as our store, and we were honored to work with him through Wipf & Stock Publishers and Cascade Books.

Along with our regular catalogs we are posting our Literary Fiction, Essays and Memoirs list this month, featuring Campbell among his peers: C.S. Lewis, Wendell Berry, Flannery O’Connor, Alan Paton, Frederick Buechner, et al.

Our location: The Strand building at West 8th & Charnelton, Eugene, Oregon

Greetings!  Here’s an introduction for those who don’t know us, and a little history for those who do…

Windows Booksellers began selling used and out-of-print theology books in Eugene, Oregon, in 1987.

Along with theology, we specialize in academic titles in Biblical Studies, Church History, Archaeology & Ancient Near East, Classics, Philosophy, and we stock a bit of history, poetry and literature as well.   We don’t carry many new books but can special order most new titles.  Windows Booksellers is an open shop and also sells through mail order and the internet.

Windows Booksellers in Eugene is staffed by Jon Stock, Katrina Stewart, Sparky Strickler, Karlie Tedrick, David van Landingham, and our newest addition, bookstore pup Wendell (named after beloved author & poet, Wendell Berry).

The Multnomah Bible College and Seminary in Portland is home to our second bookstore,  staffed by Hilda Munk and Adam McInturf.

In our early days, we were located across the street from Northwest Christian College (now Northwest Christian University), in a building that no longer exists.   Our first bookstore dog, a German Shepherd named Rex, spent his puppyhood with us there.

In the late ’90s, we moved downtown to a storefront on West Broadway, a space we shared with Wipf & Stock Publishers.  At that time, we opened Theo’s Coffeehouse, which produced a hospitable mingling of coffee and books and the people who love them.

And in the early 2000’s, we moved a couple blocks away to our current building, ‘The Strand’, on the corner of West 8th and Charnelton.  Our bookstore’s in the basement, and our coffeehouse (Theo’s) is on the main floor.  We share the building with Wipf & Stock Publishers, Cozmic Pizza, an internet cafe, and a martial arts studio.
